Emily Hamill is an independent journalist covering politics, immigration, education, and institutional accountability. Her reporting has examined sexual misconduct at UC Berkeley, immigration enforcement and data sharing, California politics, higher education and government accountability.

Her work has appeared in The Daily Californian, EdSource, and Capitol Weekly, and has been featured by KQED. At The Daily Californian, UC Berkeley's student newspaper, where she worked as a reporter and editor for 3 years, Hamill worked extensively on UC Berkeley and produced investigations into sexual misconduct and institutional accountability. 

 She has also worked as a California Student Journalism Corps Intern for EdSource, a nonprofit newsroom covering California education; a Public Policy Journalism Intern for Capitol Weekly, a nonprofit newsroom covering California government; and a Podcast & Magazine Editor for Berkeley Fiction Review, UC Berkeley's oldest short fiction journal. Her reporting has won numerous awards, such as the 2025 California College Media Association Award for Second in Best Special Issue/Section, the Herburger Journalism Scholarship Award, and the Jostens Book Bundle Award. 

She reports in English and speaks in French and Spanish. After studying abroad in Lyon, France at Université Lumière Lyon 2 for the Spring 2025 semester, Emily graduated in May 2026 with degrees in Comparative Literature (French and English concentration) and Media Studies (Global Cultural Studies concentration) and a minor in Journalism from UC Berkeley. 

From September 2026 to May 2027, Hamill will be based in southern France, where she will freelance report while working as an English language assistant through TAPIF. She is particularly interested in reporting on French politics, immigration, climate change, and the Mediterranean region for English-language and international outlets.
